A substantial increase in Mumps cases in the U.S has prompted a new recommendation from the CDC’s ACIP.  This recommendation calls for a third dose of Mumps containing vaccine in persons at increased risk for Mumps during an outbreak.  Five studies provided safety evidence for a third dose of Mumps vaccine.  No serious adverse events were reported in the 14,368 persons who received a third dose of MMR vaccine.  An article in webmd.com reported additional information about how waning immunity may be driving the rise in Mumps cases.
